Pseudo-charities who embezzled about 5 million hryvnia in donations were exposed in Kyiv

The Darnitsa District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv reported suspicion to three members of the group. The organizers of the scheme collected money through a call center, supposedly to help children. They did not transfer the donations they received anywhere and used the money at their own discretion.

This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

The investigation established that the suspects registered a charitable foundation and created a call center. Operators made phone calls and sent messages to entrepreneurs, representatives of various organizations and ordinary citizens asking them to join in collecting money.

It is noted that the “benefactors” assured that they were collecting funds for the needs of children who suffered as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. However, the defendants distributed the collected money among themselves, and for disguise, sometimes they transferred a small part of the money to charity in order to show that they were really helping someone.

“From April 2022 to June 2023, pseudo-charities embezzled about 5 million hryvnia in donations. During searches at their places of residence, law enforcement officers seized evidence of illegal activities,” the statement says.

According to Part 3 of Article 201-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, two women and a man were informed of suspicion. They face up to seven years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and confiscation of property.

We would like to remind you that earlier law enforcement officers reported that the administrator of a well-known telegram channel in Nikopol repeatedly organized fundraising, allegedly to help the Ukrainian military. Over the course of six months, the suspect received almost 1 million UAH from citizens, which she disposed of at her own discretion.
