A claim was filed with the Poltava Court of Appeal of Ukraine to recover ₴299 million in compensation from the state budget. The injured party made this demand after the case of the theft of 300 BTC from her was closed.
According to the lawsuit, between 2013 and 2015, the plaintiff gave an amount of $10,500 to an unnamed person to purchase bitcoins. In August 2015, the victim contacted the police, reporting the theft of 300 BTC.
Given this figure, the likely date for purchasing bitcoins is February-March 2013. At that time, the asset was trading between $30 and $40, according to CoinMarketCap.
In September 2023, the Poltava District Court acquitted the accused due to the lack of corpus delicti in his actions. In October 2023, the injured party filed a second claim, in which it demanded compensation of €7.6 million (about ₴299 million).
The papers indicate that this damage was caused as a result of the inaction of the prosecutor's office.
In December 2023, the Kyiv District Court of Poltava rejected the claim. The injured party remained dissatisfied with the decision of the first instance and filed an appeal.
