In the US, they proposed regulating the use of AI by lawyers

Lawyers' use of generative artificial intelligence tools, including ChatGPT, should be regulated. That's according to a proposal pending before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

If approved, the regulation would apply to lawyers and unrepresented parties involved in litigation. The document will require them to certify that if AI was used in the preparation of claims and motions, then citations and legal analysis were assessed for accuracy.

Those who neglect this practice face sanctions and denial of applications. Members of the public can provide their views on the proposal until January 4, 2024.
