Two men were arrested in Strasbourg after being found in possession of 800 firecrackers

While unloading boxes containing 800 Roman candles, two men were arrested in Strasbourg. The use of these candles during the New Year holidays is prohibited.

This was announced on Wednesday by the police of the Bas-Rhin department.

The men allegedly unloaded “boxes with inscriptions known to police from their vehicle.”

“During the inspection, it turned out that the boxes contained 800 firecrackers, or 6,400 detonations, which the residents of Strasbourg would not have to endure,” law enforcement officers added.

They clarified that we are talking about Roman candles - an entertaining pyrotechnic product that shoots colored sparks several times at time intervals.

In early December, Bas-Rhin, as in previous years, announced a ban on several categories of fireworks throughout the department. In Strasbourg and surrounding communities, this ban applies to all categories of fireworks from December 4 to January 3, 2024.

The reason for this ban was the frequent cases of injury due to pyrotechnics.
