In Ukraine, 10 cases of the Eris strain, which is a subtype of COVID-19, have been identified. The disease was recorded in six regions.
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine reports this.
The Ministry of Health reported that “Eris” is a variant of the “Omicron” coronavirus strain that causes the disease COVID-19
According to the ministry, about 14 different strains of the virus around Omicron are circulating in Ukraine. In each region, specialists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are collecting samples to examine strains and study emerging mutations.
“Between October 2 and October 8, 5,186 cases of COVID-19 were registered, 18 deaths, among people over 30 years of age,” the Ministry of Health reported.
Currently, “Eris” has been discovered in six areas, namely:
- Dnepropetrovsk,
- Transcarpathian,
- Sumskaya,
- Khmelnitskaya,
- Ternopil,
- Chernovitskaya.
Symptoms of the new strain
Symptoms of “Eris” are the same as with other known strains of COVID-19. This is in particular:
- a sore throat,
- runny nose,
- dyspnea,
- body aches,
- headache,
- fever.
A specific difference between “Eris” is an additional mutation of the spike protein, which is more likely to affect a weakened immune system.
However, according to WHO estimates, the global public health risk of this strain is assessed as low.
