The Worldcoin team announced the launch of an Ethereum-based L2 network - World Chain. It is known that the solution will use Optimism technology, and Ethereum will be the native coin of the network. Worldcoin (WLD) can be used to pay for gas.
“We are creating World Chain because the [Worldcoin] project no longer fits on the Optimism mainnet. We love the Optimism stack and that’s why we use it as the basis of World Chain,” said Worldcoin developer Thiago Sada in an interview with Decrypt.
It is known that users will be able to use World ID to verify their addresses on World Chain. The message says that this is optional and is anonymized using Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP).
Worldcoin added that World Chain is a new blockchain created for people, which will be open to everyone. According to the team, verified users will receive “priority blockchain space over bots.”
The network is expected to launch in the summer of 2024.
Note that at the time of writing, WLD is trading around $4.7:
