The Verkhovna Rada blocked Telegram on service devices by decision of the National Security and Defense Council

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has limited the use of the Telegram messenger on service devices in accordance with the decision of the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity under the National Security and Defense Council.

People's Deputy Yaroslav Yurchyshyn announced this, demonstrating what this restriction looks like in practice.

Yurchyshyn published a photo on social networks that shows that when trying to open Telegram on a service device, a message appears: “Access is blocked in accordance with the decision of the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.”

Earlier, Yurchyshyn announced that the Verkhovna Rada Office was preparing to introduce such restrictions on the use of Telegram, in particular at the request of the National Security and Defense Council, which expressed concerns about cybersecurity. This decision is part of measures aimed at improving security in the face of cyber threats associated with the use of instant messengers on official devices.

The prohibition applies only to service devices that work with confidential information that requires additional protection from possible threats from intruders.

Chairman of the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting Olga Gerasimyuk said that the National Council prohibits the use of Telegram on work computers and phones.

The National Security and Defense Council announced a ban on Telegram on official devices of civil servants, military personnel and critical infrastructure workers. The decision was made due to national security threats associated with the use of the messenger during the war.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council stated that the Telegram ban applies only to official devices of civil servants and the military. The use of the messenger on personal smartphones is not limited.
