Vitalik Buterin named the main problem of Ethereum

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin named the main problem of the crypto project. The developer shared his vision of the obstacles that stand in the way of the development of the platform during a speech at Blockchain Week in South Korea

According to Vitalik Buterin, the main problem of Ethereum is the high level of centralization of nodes (network nodes). The developer believes that finding its optimal solution may take about 20 years.

As of the time of writing, over 3.3 thousand Ethereum nodes—57.2% of the total number of network nodes—operate through centralized hosting services.

Almost 60% of nodes are powered by centralized Amazon services. For comparison, the share of the Google Cloud cloud service, which is in second place, is 6.2%.

A high level of node centralization carries risks. For example, if Amazon for some reason refuses to work with Ethereum or if the company’s equipment fails, the crypto project will lose most of the computing power necessary for operation.

Buterin believes that one of the steps towards solving the high level of centralization of Ethereum nodes will be to simplify the work of network nodes and reduce the cost of their maintenance. In particular, statelessness technology can help developers achieve their goals. Its purpose is to create two different classes of network nodes, which will free some nodes from a number of obligations, thereby simplifying their work.
