Soon Ukraine will begin producing 155-mm shells

Processing raw materials to create full-fledged projectiles can take up to three years.

Ukraine has agreed with two American companies on joint production of weapons , including 155 mm ammunition. The shells will be produced in Ukraine for several years.

The Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Alexander Kamyshin spoke about this on air at the national telethon Until this moment, Ukraine had never produced shells of this caliber before.

“We have agreements with two leading American companies on joint production of 155-caliber ammunition in Ukraine. The implementation of these projects will take years,” Kamyshin said on the national telethon.

The complete ammunition production process will take about two to three years. To begin this process, Ukraine needs the technology that its allies have.

“Ukraine has never produced these calibers. Therefore, the sooner we start, the sooner we will have these solutions up and running for the Defense Forces,” the minister said.

The most popular ammunition at the front is 152 mm and 155 mm artillery shells. If Ukraine can at least produce 152-mm shells itself, while 155-mm shells can only be obtained from Europe. Many allied countries complain that their stockpiles of shells are almost exhausted, and they are not being produced at the rate Ukraine needs. Due to intense hostilities, as of the summer of 2023, there was a certain shortage of artillery shells, and the EU did not fulfill its promise to supply 1 million 155-mm shells .
