LastPass hack: hacker withdrew about $4.4 million from more than 80 wallets

The hacker emptied more than 80 wallets compromised in the 2022 hack of the LastPass password manager. The damage amounted to about $4.4 million. This was reported by a crypto expert under the pseudonym ZachXBT.

Let us remind you that in August 2022, the LastPass service was hacked. According to the administration's statement, a group of hackers gained access to the source code and "certain proprietary information."

In December, the same attackers used stolen data to hack the computer of one of the organization's employees. In this way, they were able to decipher previously obtained information about clients.

ZachXBT and MetaMask developer Taylor Monahan tracked the compromised wallets. On October 27, 2023, an expert stated that two days earlier someone had emptied them.

According to him, more than 25 LastPass clients were affected. The damage was approximately $4.4 million. A list of addresses can be found in Monahan's report.

According to the latter, most victims confirmed the fact that they used LastPass to store the seed phrase and/or wallet password.

Both experts recommended that those users who are still using the service transfer funds as soon as possible. When asked whether such password managers can be used at all, ZachXBT answered negatively.
