Yaroslav Yurchyshyn: new head of the Committee on Freedom of Expression

The Committee on Freedom of Speech already has four parliamentary initiatives aimed at modifying freedom of speech.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine elected Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, a representative of the “Voice” faction, as chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Speech. 247 people’s deputies voted “for”.

The agenda also included a resolution of the European Solidarity faction on the appointment of Rostislav Pavlenko as chairman of the Freedom of Speech Committee.

“The audience supported Mr. Yurchyshyn. Well, we now expect from “Voice” an active position on the oligarchic marathon, closed TV channels, political censorship, protection of journalists and their return to the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada,” EU MP Irina Gerashchenko wrote on her Facebook page.

Yurchishin’s colleague in the “Golos” faction, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, noted that thus there are already four members in the Committee on Freedom of Speech: Yurchishin, Bragar, Shvets, Shufrich. “But he (Shufrich - ed.) will not be able to attend meetings yet,” the people’s deputy added.

Let us remind you that on September 20, a historical event occurred - the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine removed the head of the committee on freedom of speech, Nestor Shufrych, from his post. This is one of the first people's deputies to join the Register of Traitors.

Earlier it was reported that the Verkhovna Rada was considering what to do with the Freedom of Speech Committee, which is headed by the arrested Shufrich. It has only three people's deputies, so it is possible that it will be added to some other committee.
