They tried to bribe the head of the MBA for $100 thousand: two deputies of the regional council were caught red-handed in the Sumy region

In the Sumy region, two local deputies were exposed who tried to bribe the head of the Sumy city military administration for 100 thousand US dollars. When transferring the first tranche in the amount of 50 thousand US dollars, the deputies were detained in the hot seat.

This was reported by the press services of the SBU, as well as NABU and SAP. One of the suspects, in addition to being a deputy, also holds the position of head physician of a local medical institution.

The investigation established that the deputies offered 100 thousand US dollars of illegal benefits to the head of the Sumy city military administration.

This money was transferred in exchange for the merger of two medical institutions, which would lead to an increase in funding, as well as for the retention of the person who committed bribery in the position of chief physician of the new institution.

The deputies also promised military administration officials a percentage of budget funding for the new medical facility.

Preliminary legal qualification of the actions of detainees is Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. According to this article, offering, promising or providing an unlawful benefit to an official is punishable by a fine of five hundred to seven hundred and fifty tax-free minimum incomes of citizens or restriction of liberty for a term of two to four years, or imprisonment for the same term. The issue of reporting suspicion to deputies is being decided.

As previously reported, on March 25, 2024, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office completed an investigation against the mayor of Sumy, Alexander Lysenko, and the director of the Department of Infrastructure of the Sumy City Council on suspicion of receiving a bribe in the amount of 2.13 million hryvnia. The suspects demanded money for “not creating artificial obstacles.”
