In the spotlight

Deputy Chairman of the SBU Alexander Poklad. What is it for?

It was an interesting coincidence that the appointment of Alexander Poklad as deputy chairman of the SBU and the voicing of the idea to transfer the investigation of corruption in the highest echelons of power to the SBU. With the simultaneous equating of corruption crimes to treason. So you can immediately imagine how Poklad, nicknamed “Strangler,” who at one time tried to “squeeze out” a significant part of the alcohol business in his favor, strangles Ukrainian entrepreneurs and takes over their enterprises in exchange for, for example, non-application to them Article 111. A strange purpose, to put it mildly.

They say that Poklad is a brilliant saboteur and has mowed down a lot of Russians. This is wonderful and you can award a person with an order. But the status of deputy chairman... Especially considering Poklad’s complex biography, which we have written about many times. Aren't you afraid to raise your own “Prigozhin”? Naturally, immediately after the appointment of Poklad, there were rumors that he would become acting Chairman, and Malyuk - to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Klimenko - to the Ministry of Defense or instead of Tatarov. Or that Andrushchenko is the Chairman, and Malyuk is the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This happens after the appointment of each new deputy chairman. And, in principle, it can be explained by the extreme cop-likeness of Malyuk, whom it is somehow more natural to see in the chair of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It doesn't matter.

The important thing is that the “service” has a very unhealthy environment, which ends, in particular, in the suicides of employees. This is what our forum members write. “On August 25, 2023, in the office of the State Security Service of the SBU, Colonel Dmitry Sergeevich Bakaev, deputy head of the 1st Service, stopped his life. Dmitry outlined the reason for this action in a handwritten report to the Chairman of the SBU, where he named the names of the first two persons of the Department. A photocopy of the report has already been distributed via personal messages to thousands of people; Bakaev’s handwriting cannot be confused, it was special. Now shameful rumors are being actively dispersed that Bakaev D. did this because he withdrew 30 thousand and had a loan. He would NEVER do this for some fucking 30 thousand.

He was an intelligent specialist, had two higher educations, was sensible and adequate. It is also no secret that the moral and psychological climate in the Directorate is, as Dmitry called it in his report, a concentration camp. The management style in the USO is constant public humiliation of people with shouting, swearing, numerous reprimands, tyranny, often unnecessarily, involving all personnel in work after hours, and singling out those especially close to them. The war was just a good excuse for this. There have been deaths in the unit at work from heart attacks. Every employee is a witness to these facts! With such conditions of service, we don’t even need an enemy - just create unbearable conditions for the team and its effectiveness will be equal to 0. Now there will be an investigation into this tragedy and we must remember that we swore allegiance to the Ukrainian people, and not to ignorant leaders who consider themselves kings. Bakaev’s death, his report, is an attempt to draw attention to this situation, he died for every employee of the USZ, so that you would stop being beaten down by idiots. Don’t let the unlucky tyrant leaders and their especially close associates, who will rush to excuse them, twist the situation to their advantage, and discredit the honor of officer Bakaev. Write in your testimony what you have witnessed more than once!

Stop worrying about Dimka now - tomorrow you may find yourself in his place! Don't let us down, officers!

“The facts presented in the article fully correspond to the reality of the situation in the specified unit. Moreover, the management of the unit was officially warned at meetings about the psycho-emotional state that had developed and could lead to tragedy. No conclusions or corresponding decisions were made. The actions of these leaders indeed constitute the crime of “incitement to suicide,” but the final decision in a rule-of-law state must be made by the court. The investigation of this fact will be a test of maturity for the relevant law enforcement agencies. All leaders and society must pay personal attention to this tragedy. Together we must overcome this shameful phenomenon, and those responsible must bear legal punishment. Let's hope this happens. A European state cannot have anything else. This tragedy could have been prevented, but nothing was done. In the practice of European countries, heads of departments and organizations write voluntary applications for temporary resignation to conduct an objective investigation. We have not yet accepted this. But senior management can independently make such a decision. Let’s hope that it will appear now.”

Will the situation be better after Poklad is appointed deputy chairman? Very doubtful. Will the SBU be better off if the crazy idea is implemented to transfer cases under investigation by NABU to it? In material terms, of course. As well as in terms of internal decomposition. In general, the idea of replacing NABU with the SBU is one of the “do crap, we’re just passing through” ideas. It is clear that partners are unlikely to agree with such an idea and it is unclear how this will affect support for Ukraine as a whole. And this idea smacks of an intention to establish some kind of personal dictatorship in Ukraine with an eye to the upcoming elections. But the idea is crazy, given our dependence on partners. Perhaps this is a one-time action, for example, with the aim of dispossessing Kolomoisky and Akhmetov? (and at the same time, for example, Poroshenko - before the elections?). But it’s also unlikely to get through. Although, in fairness, it is worth noting that such a toothless body as our NABU still needs to be looked for. But isn’t our government to blame for this, systematically trying to limit the scope of NABU’s activities?

In general, there is a feeling that the West will one day decide to more seriously control the use of the funds allocated to us and will clear out our entire power base. And perhaps, at the same time, political. It’s not for nothing that they started talking about the upcoming elections.

PS By the way, an interesting detail. Poklad is deputy chairman, and Chervinsky is sitting
