Zelensky said he was ready for elections, but noted an important nuance

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, judging by a statement made in an interview with the Associated Press, claims that he is ready to organize elections in the country, but the vast majority of Ukrainians are against this idea.

Journalists do not provide a clear quote from the head of state, but convey his words as follows: “Although Zelensky said he was ready to hold elections, the majority of Ukrainians are not ready, considering it “dangerous and senseless.”

At the same time, Zelensky himself admits that he cannot hold elections in 2024 due to the danger to voters from shelling and airstrikes from the Russian Federation. And in order to conduct online voting, Zelensky explained, it is necessary to make changes to the Constitution, which is also prohibited during martial law. In addition, the president noted that there is a problem with voting in the territories temporarily occupied by Russia.

According to the head of state, being the president of a warring country is “a very difficult job,” but he “cannot imagine leaving this position.”

It should be noted that in mid-November, all political forces represented in the Ukrainian parliament signed a memorandum on holding the next elections only after the end of martial law. The official website of the Verkhovna Rada reports this. This information was also confirmed in an interview with UP by First Deputy Speaker Alexander Kornienko.
