IBM and Meta have formed a coalition to research artificial intelligence. The corporations' statement reveals the objectives and directions of the alliance's activities.
“The AI Alliance is being created as an international community of leading developers, researchers and technology adopters working together to promote open, safe and responsible artificial intelligence ,” the company representatives noted.
IBM and Meta launched the AI Alliance in collaboration with more than 50 partners around the world, including AMD, CERN, Cleveland Clinic, Dell Technologies, Intel, INSAIT, Linux Foundation, Oracle and others. They emphasized their commitment to promoting transparent innovation, security and responsible development in AI.
The creation of the alliance involves annual investments in research and development in the field of AI exceeding $80 billion. According to IBM and Meta, a governing board and a technical oversight committee will be created as part of the cooperation. They will set standards and promote artificial intelligence projects.
In addition to companies and firms, the coalition included several educational institutions: the University of Tokyo, Yale University, Imperial College London and others.
“Open innovation is essential to ensuring equitable access and collaboration in AI, and to rooting this technology in principles that meet the highest standards of diversity, trust and ingenuity,” said NASA Chief Scientist Kevin Murphy.
It is noteworthy that Microsoft, Google, OpenAI and Anthropic were not included in this association. In July 2023, they formed their own group, The Frontier Group.
