The HACC Appeals Chamber will decide the issue of reviewing the sentence imposed on former MP Ruslan Solvar from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction, who was sentenced to three years in prison.
This decision was made on November 27 by the joint chamber of the Criminal Court of Cassation of the Supreme Court.
As is known, HACS acquitted Solvar of abuse of power. At the same time, the judges saw probable fraud on the part of the ex-deputy.
Later, the AP VAKS sentenced Solvar to three years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold positions in government bodies (except elected ones) for a period of 1 year and with a fine of 8,500 UAH. The ex-people's deputy's defender filed a cassation appeal against this decision.
“The defense lawyer’s cassation appeal is partially satisfied. The verdict of the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court dated September 22, 2022 (Ruslan Solvar - ed.) is canceled and a new trial is ordered in the appellate court,” the decision says.
Let us recall that, according to the prosecution, in November 2014, Solvar received a room in the Kiev Hotel for use at the expense of the state budget due to the fact that he did not have his own housing in the capital. However, as the investigation established, at the beginning of March 2017, he inherited an apartment in Kyiv, but did not report this fact to the Administrator of the Verkhovna Rada Office, and subsequently received compensation payments from the state budget. And only in October 2018, after a number of publications in the media, he refused to receive funds. During these one and a half years, as the investigation established, the ex-people's deputy unreasonably received more than 361 thousand UAH of compensation for renting housing.
