The scandal around Ukrnafta: how hundreds of millions of hryvnia could have ended up in Medvedchuk’s pockets

Investigators discovered that hundreds of millions of hryvnias intended for Ukrnafta could go to Viktor Medvedchuk’s partners, and 30% of the kickback could end up with the head of the company.

The essence of the scandal is that in September-December 2023, Ukrnafta, without holding a tender, purchased tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) worth more than a billion hryvnia.

At the same time, the procurement scheme looks suspicious: the price in Rotterdam ($1000) plus $293 per ton, and the money went to the Swiss company AGTG SA.

It is interesting that AGTG SA belongs to Canadian citizen Evgeniy Svirsky, who has long known the head of Ukrnafta Sergei Koretsky. They are business partners in Wellsby Trade Plus LLC.

Formally, Svirsky’s partner is Koretsky’s wife, Irina Koretskaya, but Koretsky admitted that they started the business together with Svirsky.

AGTG SA previously, according to law enforcement agencies, already sold methanol to Ukrgazvydobuvannya at a 45% markup. In addition, the examination showed that the substance purchased in Rotterdam was actually produced in Russia and Belarus.

Mikhail says that the head of Ukrnafta Koretsky, helping his partner Svirsky siphon money from the state, may face accusations of a conflict of interest. An investigation by the NACP and NABU is required, as well as his inclusion in the state register of corrupt officials.
