Since the beginning of a full-scale war in Ukraine, launched by the terrorist country of the Russian Federation, the United States has confiscated sanctioned Russian assets worldwide totaling over $1 billion. The US Department of Justice is looking for opportunities to send this money to our state.
US Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco stated this on the 60 Minute program, writes CBS. “We are seeking authority from Congress to allow us to use seized funds for the benefit of the Ukrainian people,” she said.
When asked how the US government confiscates the personal property of Russians in other countries, Lisa Monaco replied that it is almost impossible to hide from sanctions.
“We stopped planes from flying in Switzerland and the Middle East. We arrested smugglers in Italy, Germany, and Latvia. We have charged those who laundered money in the UK. We have shown that there is no place to hide property under sanctions,” Monaco said.
Let us recall that in March 2022, the KleptoCapture working group was created, led by the Monaco Office. This is a unit for applying sanctions against Russian oligarchs and searching for their hidden assets around the world. Monaco said these efforts rely on extensive cooperation with foreign partners.
