In Dnepr, the SBU detained a Russian spy posing as a Ukrainian military

Collected intelligence data on the movements of units of the Armed Forces involved in the counter-offensive operation on the eastern front. The security service detained an FSB agent in Dnepr.

“The Russian agent’s area of ​​special attention was the routes of railway trains with the latest military equipment, weapons and ammunition of the Defense Forces. He also tried to identify Ukrainian air defense combat positions in the area of ​​the regional center,” law enforcement officers note.

According to the SBU, in order to disguise himself before going on a mission, the attacker changed into the military uniform of Ukrainian soldiers. He regularly made detours along the Dnieper, photographing Ukrainian objects. The defendant sent all received intelligence data via messenger to his “curator” from the FSB, for which he received a monetary reward.

It is noteworthy that payment was made after each completed task. To hide the funding channels, funds were transferred to the Russian agent’s bank card through cryptocurrency transactions.

“According to available data, intelligence data was required by the invaders to plan military operations and sabotage aimed at slowing down the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the areas of Ugledar and Novoselka,” law enforcement officers note.

It should be noted that SBU officers detained an attacker in the Dnieper while performing one of the tasks near a strategic facility.

After searching the enemy agent, law enforcement officers found a mobile phone containing evidence of correspondence with the aggressor, and ammunition for automatic weapons.

Now Security Service investigators have informed the defendant of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code (state treason committed under martial law). The issue of additional qualification of his criminal actions under Art. 263 UKU (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition) or explosives),” the SBU said in a statement.
