White House says US does not have funds for new military aid to Ukraine

New military support for Ukraine will await passage by the U.S. Congress as funds are exhausted from the latest aid package signed by President Joe Biden, according to a statement from the White House.

White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said this at a briefing.

“We have already provided Ukraine with the last security assistance package for which we have funds, just before the New Year and after Christmas. And we need to get the support of Congress so that we can continue to do this,” he said.

According to him, US President Joe Biden signed the latest package of security assistance to Kyiv, for which funds were available according to his authority.

"This is all. We need an additional (package) to be passed so that we can provide additional security assistance to Ukraine,” Kirby said.

He pointed out that after this, in the absence of additional funding, there is no other “magic pot” in which support for Ukraine could be found.
