CoinGecko named the fastest blockchain with a throughput of 1054 TPS

CoinGecko analysts studied the situation with the performance of blockchains operating in the cryptosphere. Experts analyzed 25 different networks and presented the public with a rating based on the results of their work.

CoinGecko stated that the fastest blockchain is Solana, which set a record for the number of processed transactions on April 6, 2024 - 91 million. The average network throughput was 1053.7 TPS.

The peak performance coincided with the memcoin rally that unfolded on the Solana network this spring. However, analysts note that the recorded performance is only 1.6% of the theoretical maximum throughput of the blockchain of 65,000 TPS.

At the same time, experts point to problems that have arisen at Solana due to the increased load. The network has repeatedly experienced outages caused by the memcoin rally. For this reason, CoinGecko is not confident that the network will actually achieve the stated characteristics.

Nevertheless, the recorded indicators allow Solana to easily maintain leadership in this parameter. The mentioned network is 46 times faster than Ethereum, and also has five and a half times the throughput of Polygon. Moreover, the latter is the fastest blockchain among the largest Ethereum scaling solutions.

Analysts noted that Polygon peaked in terms of throughput at 190 TPS on November 16, 2023. According to this indicator, it is more than 8 times ahead of Ethereum. As for the overall rating, Polygon occupies only fourth place.

The Sui blockchain is in second place in terms of speed. In July last year, the network achieved a throughput of 854 TPS. This progress coincided with the surge in popularity of the on-chain gaming project SUI 8192.

Third place in the presented ranking went to BNB Smart Chain (BSC), which demonstrated a throughput of 378 TPS in December 2023. This figure made BSC the fastest EVM-compatible blockchain.

In fifth position is The Open Network (TON) with a maximum performance of 175.5 TPS, and right behind it is Tron, which reached 160 TPS.

As for Ethereum, it is on the 17th line of the rating with an indicator of 22.7 TPS. Bitcoin is even lower on this list - at 20th position with a throughput of 10.7 TPS.
