The National Court of Spain rules to block Telegram in the country

The National Court of Spain has ruled to temporarily block the Telegram messenger in the country as part of the consideration of a claim by media companies EGEDA, Mediaset España, A3 Media and Movistar Plus. They accused Telegram of distributing pirated content.

In the lawsuit, the media companies claim that Telegram distributes content protected by copyright. The messenger did not provide information at the court's request, so the court decided to temporarily block it for further investigation.

The court ruling applies to all telecom operators in Spain. It is not specified when Telegram will be blocked, but elDiario’s sources say that this will happen before the end of this week.

The author and developer of the messenger is Russian entrepreneur Pavel Durov. However, he has not lived in the Russian Federation for a long time, and is also a citizen of three other states.

Let us remind you that discussions about limiting the activities of Telegram channels have been going on for a long time. One of the first to speak about this was former Minister of Culture and Information Policy Alexander Tkachenko.

Recently, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine about the danger from anonymous Telegram channels. According to him, recently there has been an increase in the popularity of anonymous public pages in Ukraine.

NSDC Secretary Alexey Danilov said that Telegram channels in Ukraine must be transparent in their activities. The main requirement for public pages is the elimination of anonymity.
