However, according to the newspaper, it became clear that he could not get a majority of votes for the full House of Representatives due to the dissent of Republicans in the narrowly divided chamber.
In addition, former President Donald Trump issued a strongly worded statement opposing Emmer's candidacy, calling him a "globalist RINO," short for "Republican in Name Only," and claiming that Emmer was "totally out of touch with Republican voters." .
It should be noted that Tom Emmer is considered a supporter of Ukraine. He was among the first American politicians to condemn the full-scale Russian invasion.
Emmer also voted for a number of congressional measures to assist Ukraine.
Let us add that Republicans have a majority in the US House of Representatives, which has not been able to approve bills for three weeks now because a speaker has not been elected.
